I 3D scanned the Type 91 Hand Grenade introduced in a previous article and used the data to create a grenade-shaped BB bottle.

Through careful surface finishing and painting, I was able to achieve an appearance that is nearly indistinguishable from the authentic piece. In the photo below, the authentic grenade is on the right and the BB bottle is on the left.

The scanner I use is the Revopoint Metro Y Pro, which can capture object geometry at a nominal accuracy of 0.01mm.

The scan data is imported into CAD, where I trace over the geometry and redesign the model.
In addition to restoring fine surface details that were lost in the scan, I also design the internal structure so that the piece functions as a BB bottle.

This is the first prototype. It was printed in multicolor, switching between filaments of different colors during printing, but the result is unmistakably toy-like.

Additionally, the safety cover was printed as a single piece with the body. While this made printing easier, it also contributed to the toy-like appearance.

This is the improved version based on the first prototype. Making the safety cover a separate part significantly improved the accuracy. As it is an extremely thin component, getting it to print properly was a challenge.

This shows the piece after surface preparation, before painting. Because putty was applied over the entire surface and then sanded down, the surface has a cloudy white appearance, but it is smooth to the touch.

This is the finished piece after painting. Rather than a shiny, brand-new finish, I aimed for a look with some light wear and grime.

I produced an initial batch of 10 units. These will be listed on Yahoo Auctions and will also be sold at the Furutakaya booth at the Victory Show.
