This is a replica cleaning kit box for the IJA Type 96 LMG / Type 99 LMG.
It was designed in CAD and produced with a 3D printer.
The cleaning kit pouch held a tin box of this shape inside, giving the pouch a neat, structured appearance. As I do not own an authentic example, this item was made with reference to the accessory diagrams in “九六式軽機関銃取扱法” (Type 96 LMG Handling Manual).
On the authentic box, the large compartment held a spindle oil can, and the small compartment held the cleaning rod, brushes, and similar items. However, as this item has been made with thicker walls to ensure durability, it cannot store these items in the same way as the authentic piece.
I have confirmed that it fits not only in my own cleaning kit pouch, but also in the cleaning kit pouch made by Nakata Shōten.
It can be used as a small item case for airsoft gear such as screwdrivers and batteries.
It can also hold up to five Marushin Type 14 pistol magazines when stacked alternately top to bottom, making it usable as a dump pouch as well.
*When using it as a dump pouch, removing the lid and attaching it to the bottom of the box makes loading and unloading easier.
